Getting a Police Record Check
At the YMCA of Greater Toronto, we are serious about our responsibility to protect the children and other vulnerable people we serve. As part of this responsibility, we ask all of our staff and volunteers to provide us with a current Police Record Check. Our screening process is consistent with the Ontario Human Rights Code and legislation. Positive Police Record Check results are reviewed on a case by case basis. Volunteers will receive instructions on obtaining the appropriate police record check when they are accepted into a volunteer role.
New Employees and Volunteers
As a new YMCA of Greater Toronto employee or volunteer, you are required to obtain a Vulnerable Police Record Check (Vul-PRC) at your cost, before your first day of work. This is an expectation of all YMCA employees as part of our commitment to help protect children and vulnerable people.
Please note:
- Individuals 18 years and younger do not need to provide a Vul-PRC.
- Returning employees should speak with their supervisor to determine if you need to get a new Vul-PRC.
How To Obtain a PRC
Many regional police services have made it easier for applicants to apply for their Vul-PRC online. It's available to anyone living in Canada including newcomers. If you're requested to provide proof of ID, you can upload a photo of your passport or drivers permit.
A Vul-PRC should be completed in the region in which you reside and must be completed with your regional police service.

How To Submit Your PRC To Your Supervisor
Digital PRC: If you receive your Vul-PRC by email, download the Vul-PRC and save it to your computer the first time you open the link. Digital Vul-PRC's have their own internal authentication. Please email the downloaded copy to your new supervisor.
Hardcopy PRC: If you receive a hardcopy by regular mail service, bring your original hardcopy and hand it to your supervisor on your first day of work. Your supervisor will sign the harcopy Vul-PRC as a true copy, then scan it and send it to HR.
